Question 1

How much do custom blinds, shades, and shutters cost in Clayton?

Accepted Answer

Custom window treatments typically range from under $100 to over $1,000 per window. The price depends on the product, window size, material, operating system, motorization, and number of windows, so an exact quote requires measuring the actual windows. Made in the Shade Clayton & Fuquay-Varina includes a free in-home consultation — owners Glenn and Aurea measure every window, show samples in your home's real lighting, and tailor the quote to your actual project. Call (919) 939-2009 to book.

Question 2

What window treatments work best for Clayton's heat and humidity?

Accepted Answer

In Clayton's hot, humid summers, heat- and moisture-smart products work best: solar shades cut glare and solar heat gain while keeping the view, cellular shades add insulation to ease the load on your AC, and moisture-resistant faux wood blinds and shutters resist warping in humid rooms. West- and south-facing rooms benefit most. Many newer Johnston County homes have large windows that suit motorized solar or cellular shades for effortless, scheduled control.

Question 3

Are you locally owned?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Made in the Shade Clayton & Fuquay-Varina is locally owned and operated by Glenn and Aurea Wangerien, who moved to North Carolina in 2017 and personally handle the design, measuring, and installation. You work directly with the owners, not a call center or subcontractor. Glenn's background in new-home construction and interior finishing means your treatments are measured and installed by a true window-fashion professional.

Question 4

Do cellular shades really lower energy bills?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Cellular (honeycomb) shades trap a layer of insulating air against the glass, reducing heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates cellular shades can cut window heat gain by up to 40%. In Clayton's long, hot cooling season, that eases the load on your AC — especially on west- and south-facing windows.

Question 5

How does the free in-home consultation work?

Accepted Answer

Made in the Shade brings the showroom to you: Glenn and Aurea come to your home, review products and samples in your actual lighting, take professional measurements, and give you a quote. After you order, they personally install everything for a precise fit. Because it happens in your home, they can spot window depth, mounting conditions, and specialty shapes that change the recommendation — details a store visit can't capture.

Question 6

What areas do you serve?

Accepted Answer

Made in the Shade Clayton & Fuquay-Varina serves Angier, Archer Lodge, Benson, Clayton, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Knightdale, Selma, Willow Springs, Wendell, and surrounding areas. The mobile showroom comes to your home anywhere in the service area. Call (919) 939-2009 to confirm we cover your neighborhood.
